Procedures via Remote Connection

The remote connection allows you to perform one or more license actions (e.g. activate) on a remote offline computer or on the license carriers connected to it (e.g. Keyman, Vector network interface) using a local online computer.

Follow all step-by-step instructions 1-3.

Procedure

1. Prepare Remote Connection on the Remote Offline Computer

There are two different ways to do this:

  1. Vector Tool Platform (VTP) Device
If you are using a Vector Tool Platform Device (e.g. smart logger), follow these steps:

  1. Go to the directory where the Vector License Client is located (e.g. with Windows File Explorer).

  2. In the Remote folder you can find the Vector License Client Remote.vtpapp.
Install this package by using the Vector Tool Platform in the usual way.

  3. Note down the IP address.

  1. Other Offline Computer
If you are not using a Vector Tool Platform Device, follow these steps:

  1. Install the Vector License Client.
  2. Go to the directory where the Vector License Client is located (e.g. with Windows File Explorer).
  3. With double click start Remote.exe.
    A console window is opened.
The IP address is shown in the window.
  4. Note down the IP address.

Procedure

2. Configure Remote Mode on the Local Online Computer

  1. Open the Vector License Client.
  2. In the ribbon, click Settings.
    The Settings dialog appears.
  3. Open the Remote tab with a click.
  4. Enter the IP address of the offline computer you noted in the instruction 1 above.
  5. Click on Test Connection to check if the offline computer can be reached.
A message displays the result of the test.
Note: If the offline computer cannot be reached, make sure that the entered IP address is valid and that the offline computer is up and reachable and that the Remote.exe is started on the offline computer. It is also necessary that the same version of the Vector License Client is used on both online and offline computers.

Procedure

3. Perform License Actions on the Online Computer

  1. In the ribbon, click on the required action (e.g. ribbon|group Licensing|[Activate]) and perform it online as described on the following help pages:
The actions are performed remotely on the offline computer.

Note

Notice!

On an offline computer with remote connection, only actions from a single local online computer may be started simultaneously.
