Migration Basics

General

In the case you have older hardware-based licenses (licenses which are located on a keyman or Vector network interface) it might be necessary to migrate them to new Vector Licenses with the Vector License Client in order to manage them (e.g., to activate, deactivate or reactivate them).

You can migrate licenses by clicking Licensing|[Migrate] in the Ribbon.

The Vector License Client checks whether the computer on which you are performing the action is connected to the Internet and automatically establishes a connection to the Vector license server accordingly. You can then proceed accordingly:

Note

Notes

  • If you intended to use the online procedure but the dialog for the offline procedure is opened, please try the following.
  • Open the dialog in ribbon Settings|Offline/Online Mode and deactivate Offline.
  • Open the dialog in ribbon Settings|Proxy Settings and check your proxy settings and credentials.
  • Check your internet connection and contact your corporate IT admin.
  • It is no longer possible to start a migration without license bits on a device.

Basic Knowlegde

Migration Basics

  • The activation key supplied by Vector or by your local license admin is required during the migration process. For more information contact the Vector Sales department.
  • The computer on which you execute the migration may also be the license carrier at the same time.
  • To find out if your license carrier (e.g., computer, keyman, Vector network interfaces) is supported by the Vector License Client, please refer to the corresponding help. Otherwise the Vector License Client will automatically check and display all supported and currently available license carriers in the selection field during the migration process.

Note

Notice!

  • You may change the migration method (online/offline) at any time. However, you must complete each migration procedure by using only one method. You must not change the migration method during a current migration process!

Continue Migration

If the online migration process should abort for some reason or if it cannot be completed there is still a possibility to continue the process. Use the following procedure exclusively for this use case.
