Device Selection
Selected Device
Via this list you can select a device. In the device list all found devices are displayed that are supported by the Vector Tool Platform.
- Devices connected to the computer via USB
- IP network devices found in the local network
- All IP network devices, added by the user manually ([Edit...] button)
With [Edit...] you open the Edit Connection Parameters dialog. Here you can add and delete IP network devices or change their connection parameters. These settings are retained even after you exit the program, which means these network devices will always be listed, regardless of whether or not they are found in the network.
With [Advanced Search…] you open the Advanced Search dialog. In this dialog you can find devices that are not in the same address range and configure their IP address.
After selecting a device from the list, the connection is established. The current state of the device is displayed in the status bar. Now you can make other device settings under Tool Platform.
Vector Drivers
Driver Update
With [Update Driver…] you can update the drivers on the connected device.
Install vendor drivers from
This is where you enter the current location (on your computer) of the drivers you want to install. You can download an installation package with the current drivers from the Vector Homepage (http://www.vector.com). With [Browse…] you open a search dialog to navigate to the driver location. The selected path is then inserted into the field.
Once you have entered a path to the driver package, the Driver Summary list is updated to show the drivers that are available for installation.
Driver Summary
This list shows the driver versions that are currently installed on the network hardware. It also shows, for each hardware device, the driver versions that your Vector tool requires in order to run properly. If you have entered a path to a driver package, the versions contained in this package are shown as well.
The list displays the following information:
- Device
This column contains the name of the hardware, e.g. VN1640 - Installed Driver
This column contains the version number of the driver currently installed on the network hardware. - Available Driver
This column displays the version number of the driver contained in the driver package selected via Install vendor drivers from.
Allow overwriting newer versions (not recommended)
You can install new drivers and new versions at any time. If you also want to install older drivers or if you want to re-install the same version of an existing driver, you need to activate this option.
Do not activate this option if you only want to install new drivers or newer driver versions.

Operating System
Preparation
In certain rare cases, when a software or driver update doesn't suffice, it can be necessary to update the operating system (including all pre-installed drivers) running on the device (e.g. VN8900). This is done by loading a memory image (provided by Vector) to the internal flash memory of the device.
To prepare for this operation, unplug the device (e.g. VN8900) from the power supply. Open the device (for details, see the device manual) and remove the network hardware insert.
- In case of a VN8910/VN8910A you have to connect the Mini-B USB port of the device with a USB port on the user computer using an appropriate USB cable.
- In case of a VN8810/VN8911/VN8912/VN8912A/VN8914 you have to remove the CFast card from the drive of the device and connect the card to the user computer using the provided card reader.
Updating the Operating System
To install a memory image, click on the Update button in the Vector Platform Manager|Connection|Operating System. This button takes you to the Vector VN8900 Flash Program dialog.

First Usage After Update
Once the operating system is updated successfully, remove the USB cable from the device's internal port (VN8910/VN8910A) or re-insert the CFast card in the device's drive (VN8810/VN8911/VN8912/VN8912A/VN8914) and re-mount the module for the network hardware (for details, see the device manual). You can now use the device in the usual way with your computer using the external USB port. Depending on the exact contents of the image that you loaded and the installed CANoe
