This component implements a 16-bit event counter. It counts external events (specified edges of an external signal). It uses a hardware counter which may have a different width from 16 bits, in which case the counter is extended or tapered to 16 bits. The functionality of the modulus register is required in the 'Repetitive' Mode.

Since the timer overflow flag is set when the timer reaches a value of 65535, the maximum number of events that can be counted by this component is limited to 65534 (value of 65535 is marked as invalid as the method GetNumEvents returns the ERR_OVERFLOW value as its result).
