Members of a struct or union cannot be declared with incomplete type. For example:

struct ST1 {int a; int buf[]; };        /* Message 0642 */

struct ST2 {int p; struct ST3 s; };     /* Message 0643 */

MISRA C:2012 Rules applicable to message 0642:

Rule-1.1  (Required) The program shall contain no violations of the standard C syntax and constraints, and shall not exceed the implementation's translation limits
