This message is issued whenever a constant expression of essentially signed type undergoes an assigning conversion to a floating type. For example:
/*PRQA S 1-9999 ++*/
/*PRQA S 4437,1298 --*/
void foo (float b);
float f4437 (void)
{
float fta = (1+1); /* 4437 */
foo (3 * 10); /* 4437 */
foo (0); /* 1298 */
fta = (-1); /* 4437 */
return (+0); /* 4437 */
}
Note that message 1298 will be generated for a constant instead.
MISRA-C:2004 Rules applicable to message 4437:
| Rule 10.1 (Required) | The value of an expression of integer type shall not be implicitly converted to a different underlying type if: a) it is not a conversion to a wider integer type of the same signedness, or b) the expression is complex, or c) the expression is not constant and is a function argument, or d) the expression is not constant and is a return expression |
