Language extensions REFERENCE - ISO:C90-6.8 Preprocessing Directives - Syntax

Some unrecognized text has been encountered at the end of a preprocessing directive. Some pre-ISO C compilers allowed this but it has since been outlawed as confusing and inconsistent. Its primary use was to allow the matching of #endif's to their corresponding #if's.

For example: 


/*PRQA S 553,2017 ++*/

#ifdef MACROX

/* ... */

#endif MACROX                        /* Message 0830 - "MACROX" is ignored */

#ifdef MACROX

/* ... */

#endif                               /* MACROX - use a comment ! */
