Arithmetic type - Implicit conversions

An expression of type float is being implicitly converted to type unsigned char. A conversion of this kind may result in a loss of precision as the fractional element of the value is discarded. If the integral element of the value cannot be represented in type unsigned char, either because it is too large or because it is negative, the result will be meaningless.

For example:

extern float ftx;
extern void ef(unsigned char p);

extern void foo(void)
{
    unsigned char uca;

    uca = ftx;                  /* Message 3801 */
